Question
We have a 9-month-old yellow Lab. I noticed that he has been shedding really bad. His hair is so thin that you can see his skin. Is this normal? Also, we are feeding him puppy chow. When and what do we need to start him on?
Answer
With a dog that is nine months old, I would first make sure your puppy is free of parasites that can affect their coat and free of external parasites such as mange mites, fleas, etc. You may want to try either an Iams, Science diet, or Nutramax brand puppy food, which is a higher quality food. Using it, you should be able to feed your dog less and have less stool. I would have these things checked by your regular veterinarian.
