Question

My dog seems to have a type of eye infection. I have taken her to the vet and they gave me some gel in which I put in her eye to make it better. It has been 7 days now and it's still not better. The vet said he couldn't see any scraches on her pupil, so I've ruled that out. Hunting season is coming up and I would really like her to be 100 percent before I even consider taking her out.

Answer

If your veterinarian cannot find any ulcerations of your dog's cornea, and her eye is not improving, you should probably take her back for another examination or get a second opinion. Eyes heal very quickly normally, so if hers is not, there must be another underlying problem such as a foreign body under her third eyelid or maybe a repeated irritant. Please follow up with your veterinarian for further diagnosis.
