Question

I have a BYD. I don't know his history. I found him in a horrible living condition so I brought him home. He has a limp in his left hind quarter. I've read that there is a condition called "Panosteitis", and that diet may help. Could you please help me with what I should do? Thanks.

Answer

I would take this dog to your regular veterinarian for a good physical examination. Depending on the dog's age, his condition could be Panosteitis or I would be more concerned about hip dysplasia, which is also very prevelant in the retrieving breeds. Your veterinarian would need to take radiographs of your dog's hips to see this condition. And to answer your question, yes Panosteitis can be treated with diet and anti-inflammatories that are prescribed by your veterinarian.
