Question
My big yellow dog gets a grayish stain around her neck from a chrome-plated collar. She also leaves gray footprints in the house when she first comes out of her (metal crate) cage. The age of my Bailey is 61/2 months old and she only receives puppy food. Thank you and anxiously awaiting your reply.
Answer
I would recommend that you use a nylon quick-release collar on your dog, especially since it is a puppy. The nylon collars come in S,M, and L sizes and are adjustable to avoid buying several collars before your puppy is an adult size. I would only recommend using the choke type metal collars for training, not as an everyday collar. Also please be very careful about leaving a collar on your puppy when he is in his/her crate. They can become hung on the sides of the crate and possibly choke themselves. Regarding the crate pan, it will help to put a fleece blanket or a carpet remnant in the bottom of your puppy's crate. There are crate pads available for your puppy's crate but I would not recommend these unless your puppy is out of the chewing phase.
