Question
My 2 year old Lab seems to gag a lot mostly in the evenings when I am playing fetch with her outside in the yard. Could this be due to the fact that she eats grass or are Labs susceptible to pollen? Could there be other reasons? She doesn't throw up just gags. This just recently started.
Answer
It is possible for an inhalant allergen to make your Lab gag. Also excessive panting can cause a gag reflex, or what we call a laryngeal spasm, which can trigger the gag reflex in some dogs. If this problem continues or worsens we recommend you have a physical examination done by your veterinarian.
