Question
We have a seven-month-old yellow female Lab. At this time, we have her on Purina Puppy Chow plus a flaxseed refrigerated oil for dogs from the health food store. The last month or so, she has been eating her stool. They are frozen outside. What is her problem? (She was fixed a couple months ago.)
Answer
We call this "coprophagia." It is unknown why some dogs do this. Some possible reasons include boredom or a natural instinct to cover up their scent. My best advice would be to scoop your yard, kennel area or whereever your dog eliminates. Usually if the dog does not have acsess to fecal material, it will stop this behavior.
