Question
My 1-year-old chocolate Lab has terrible gas. This dog smells worse than four skunks combined. I am feeding her Science Diet Large Breed Adult food. Is this a cycle she is going through or is she doing this to irritate me? The problem here is that I am being blamed for the stench by my wife. I'll admit that I have thrown my share of gas over the years but this stuff is unheard of. Can you give me any suggestions so I can get out of this doghouse!!!
Answer
Do you feed your dog any other treats or people food that could be adding to this problem? People sometimes feel that animals need a variety of foods, like humans eat, and this is not true. If Science Diet is the only thing your dog is on, then I recommend you seek another diet that is high quality like Iams (Eukanuba) maintenance for your dog. While Science Diet and Iams make two of the best foods, some dogs cannot handle the main ingredients. Science Diet has a lot of soy and corn in the diet. Iams has a chicken base. Different dogs handle these foods differently.
