Question
Hi! I am currently living in the Mojave desert, so I don't have my dogs on heartworm prevention (no mosquitos here). My husband is in the military and just got orders to transfer to Germany. I was wondering if dogs need to be on heartworm/flea prevention at all. I can't seem to find any info on that area. Please let me know I would really appreciate it and so would my dogs!
Answer
In general, yes, it is our opinion that is a good idea to have your dog on heartworm medication. The two companies I would contact are drug companies. The first is Bayer Animal Health that makes the flea product Advantage at 1-800-422-9874, and for the heartworm issue I would call Merial at 1-888-637-4251. I would ask each of these companies to speak to a technical service tech or veterinarian that can answer your specific questions.
